According to scientists from NOAA’s National Centers for Environmental Information (NCEI) the Fall 2024 was the United States warmest on record. The U.S. experienced its warmest year-to-date period in 130 years.

The first 11 months of 2024 were the warmest on record in the U.S.

NOAA’s U.S. climate report for November 2024 highlights that November 2024 was the sixth-warmest November in U.S. history. The average temperature was 45.3°F, 3.6°F above normal.

Fall 2024 (September–November) was the warmest in NOAA’s 130-year climate record.

The average temperature was 57.6°F, 4.1°F above average.

Alabama, Louisiana, Maine, and Mississippi had their warmest November ever. 25 other states experienced one of their top 10 warmest Novembers.

Average November precipitation was 2.98 inches, 0.75 inches above average. Oklahoma had its wettest November on record, and Kansas had its second-wettest. These rains helped ease drought conditions in the central U.S.

States like Maine, Minnesota, Nebraska, Texas, and Wisconsin set fall temperature records.

Fall precipitation in the U.S. was 6.23 inches. This was recorded as 0.65 inches below average. Connecticut, Delaware, Maine, and New Jersey experienced their driest falls ever.

The 2024 Atlantic hurricane season ended with 18 named tropical storms, 11 of which were hurricanes.

This tied for fourth-most U.S. hurricane landfalls in a season.

According to NOAA’s U.S. Climate in November 2024 report, “The contiguous U.S. is on pace to end 2024 as one of the warmest two years on record.”

“September–November and January–November were the warmest such periods on record for the nation.”
