Most of western and central Europe faced below-average rainfall. Wetter-than-average areas included western Iceland, southern UK, northern Scandinavia, southern Balkans, Greece, and eastern Spain. Eastern Europe experienced above-average precipitation.
Wetter-than-average regions: Parts of the U.S., Australia, South America, central Asia, and easternmost China. Typhoons caused heavy rainfall and damage in the Philippines. Drier-than-average regions: Southwestern U.S., Mexico, Chile, Brazil, Horn of Africa, southern Africa, southeastern China, and parts of central Asia.
Drier conditions prevailed in much of North and South America, southern Africa, southern China, and the Horn of Africa. Severe drought hit South America. Wetter conditions occurred in the northwestern and southeastern U.S., central Asia, and western and central Australia.
November marked the third-lowest Arctic sea ice extent on record, 9% below average. Significant below-average concentrations were observed near Svalbard and Franz Josef Land.
Sea ice extent hit a record low for November, 10% below average. Notable anomalies occurred in the South Atlantic, Indian, and Ross Sea sectors. The November 2024 Antarctic sea ice extent was the lowest recorded since 1979, continuing historically low levels observed in 2023 and 2024.
